    RAIVIS GALANTE

    Galante, Raivis || Latvia APH__Latvia_desu_by_Miyuli

    Name: Raivis Galante
    Age: 17
    Nationality: Latvian
    Prisoner/Guard: Prisoner
The time they've been in the camp: Three months

Appearance: Raivis is a boy of short stature, looking much younger than most boys his age, and seemingly much younger than he is. Usually the shortest person in a crowd, Raivis is usually looked over as a child, and left at that- though once on speaks with him, they would notice he is in fact, much older than he appears(if only because he can discuss things mature beyond his years in appearance). Not quite reaching 5 feet tall yet, he hasn't had any sort of growth spurt. He has a thin build, without much muscle, and remains a lanky, awkward teenager that's yet to grow into his body.

Raivis has thick, curly sandy blond hair, with fringe reaching just to his eyebrows and no longer. He doesn't tend to his hair very thoroughly, and leaves it as a curly mess, only ever brushing it with his fingers. He has light coloured eyes, a bright tropical ocean blue. His skin is pale but strong, he doesn't burn very easily, nor does he tan. When injured, he doesn't scar as easily as most, and rebounds more quickly than others. He is more resilient than his appearance would suggest.

    Personality:
From a young age, Raivis was taught that he must do whatever is necessary to survive. Manipulate or be manipulated, whichever is in his benefit, he must do. As such, Raivis learned to manipulate those around him, and does so whenever he has too. He never was cruel or greedy though, only trying to manipulate when it was necessary...though, he doesn't have a great sense of responsibility, and even if those he manipulates are hurt in the process, he won't do anything about it. He tries to help others, though only if he can do so without endangering himself. He isn't heartless, but he isn't the bravest soul there ever was. He can endure a lot and rebound. He has a lot of patience, and is relatively cool headed. For him to lose his temper, be it over something taking too long or a frustrating person, is a rare situation.

Raivis is jittery and nervous, wary of everyone when he first meets them. He doesn't give his trust to many, and it takes a lot of time for him to fully open up to someone. He doesn't make much of an effort to go forth and befriend others, and in return, is a bit of a loner. He isn't bothered by this much, for usually he has just one or two people he holds close to him, and that is all he really needs. A hard worker by nature, Raivis is happiest when he's doing something, he likes to feel productive. An optimist at heart, it isn't oppression or terrible circumstance that gets him feeling depressed, but simply being sedentary and inactive make him uncomfortable. He's willing to work for what he wants and needs, but also willing to do whatever he's told, if it's safer. He is cowardly, and it would take a close bond for him to put himself in danger for the sake of another. It isn't that he doesn't want to help others, for he always wants the best for (some)people, but he doesn't have the confidence in himself to act upon it.

While Raivis is generally not a spiteful person, he's also not completely benevolent. Raivis doesn't forgive easily, and he rarely forgets those who've wronged him in any way, shape, or form. He refuses to trust someone who has betrayed him, even if it is something petty. He may pretend to be friendly still, but only because he doesn't want to make enemies. He would rather be mistaken as a foolish child and let someone believe he's ignorant, than treat them badly in return and turn them on him. While it takes much longer, and even a small slip could risk any progress they've made with gaining his trust again. Sometimes, depending on the severity of the misdeed, Raivis will never truly trust a person again, and will constantly be wary of them.

Raivis is not as clueless as many would think, he is a very observant individual, who is very good at hiding it. If one confronts him about this, he will play dumb. If he likes a person enough, he will let them know a much more serious side of himself, but for his safety, he doesn't show that until he's forced to. He can be a bit egocentric, especially around people that are only strangers to him, but gradual starts to care more about people when he's gotten to know them. The part of himself he likes to keep hidden the most though, is his inner romantic. Even to some of his family he hides this, but in truth, he loves music, art, and literature. He is an intelligent person, and loves difficult books, always willing to learn. But for most people, he'll never let them know this, be fears disapproval. He tries to mold his outward self to be what it needs to be to keep him safe. Only when he feels completely and utterly safe with a person will he let them know his real self.

History: (at least one paragraph of early life and one paragraph of service history/how they were caught)
Raivis was born into a moderately wealthy family. His mother and father worked together in a Dental Office, his father owning the office and working as the main dentist, and his mother being secretary to him for many years. During his younger years, Raivis and his family were on good terms; sometimes, his relatives would go missing, though, and Raivis never knew why. He didn't question it, and when the family of friends would disappear, he learned to be quiet about it. It was a taboo subject, not to be mentioned. He began his education as soon as he was old enough, and began learning a second language as soon as he could speak Latvian. His parents wanted him to have an advantage, and by the time he was 10 years old, he was fluent in Latvian and German. He started learning Russian as well, and picked up some Lithuanian as well.

In 1940, Raivis' parents disregarded common sense and continued to treat Jewish clients. Even when people started getting taken away and sent to ghettos and concentration camps, his parents still smuggled those in and treated them for whatever they could. With their house built right next door to the dental office, Raivis saw many of what happened, though his parents were very hushed about it. Eventually, his parents began bringing guests into their house, but Raivis never got to know them. They came and went- or so he thought, he was oblivious to his parents hiding Jews from persecution for a long while. Eventually, Raivis was taken out of school, his parents feared for his safety,.They didn't want him to let slip even a small hint of what they were doing, even if he didn't know any of it was happening.

At age 15, Raivis did learn of what his parents were doing. Because of being home-schooled, he was around too often not to notice it, and eventually he convinced his parents to let him help them. Though he couldn't do much, and his parents never let him out of the house for any reason related to their work, he still tried his best. He never spoke much to the people they helped, and sometimes, they weren't even Latvian and they never spoke a word to each other. He would bring them food at night, tiptoeing ever so quietly to the basement where they stayed hidden, or bringing down a blanket...he enjoyed helping them, and even though he was 15, he didn't understand the consequence of what he was doing.

As time passed, and Raivis became more aware what was happening, he would join the Pērkonkrusts secretly. They were a group who had the support of the Germans. He joined the party without telling his parents. He hoped by doing so, it would bring any attention away from his family, and that they would be safer while being able to continue their 'business'. Raivis never agreed with many of the ideologies of the Pērkonkrusts', but he felt he was doing something to help his family.

Until the day came Raivis' neighborhood was raided. His parents and the Jews they'd been hiding were captured and taken away- to where, Raivis would never know. He came under suspicion after this, and, to make him prove his loyalty, he was drafted into a killing squad, connected to the Sichheitsdienst. Never having fired a gun at another human, or have ever killed someone before, Raivis was petrified. His options at this point were to kill those he found innocent, or to escape...He chose the latter. With the German he'd learned as a child, he managed to cross the border into Lithuania, and eventually Poland- but here his journey would end. He would be capture by German soldiers, shot in the arm, and thrown in jail for deserting. He narrowly escaped execution, and he suspected he only got free of the death sentence because someone pitied him for being so young...but Raivis did, and he arrived in the Prisoners of War camp shortly after being captured.

Swimming was bad. Very bad. Especially when you were a flimsy little Latvian who hardly could keep yourself afloat. Maybe it wasn't that bad- if you knew how to swim! But to this certain Latvian, it was just another thing on the list of 'ways I'll probably die'. While swimming was bad, Raivis did like the lake at Hogwarts, it was a relaxing sight, despite the many creatures that lurked deep beneath the surface...Sitting a safe few yards away from the edge of the lake, Raivis shook his head and got the thoughts of evil, man-eating creatures out of his mind and appreciated the slightly chilly, but still bright, clear day.

Outside in the fresh air was the best place to do homework, Raivis always though. He quite enjoyed the outdoors, even if he wasn't too great at most physical activities(see above, 'swimming'). With two books open before him, and two more stacked to the side(his wand lay just on top of those books, out and ready for use when needed!), Raivis had some papers laid out before him, a bottle of ink sitting at the corner of a book, and a quill held lightly in his hand. He'd gotten almost all of his work done! He only had to finish an essay for Charms, and he'd be-

...Done. He would be done soon, that was, if a lovely breeze hadn't decided to blow on by and send the scroll he'd been working on into the air. Raivis yelped in shock and jumped to his feet, successfully tipping over the ink bottle, knocking the pile of books over(stubbing his toe!), and chased after the water. Raivis swatted at it frantically, he did not want to have to rewrite his whole essay because he'd lost the silly thing in the lake! Raivis stopped only a few inches from the waters edge and swiped his hand out, finally grabbing onto the flying parchment- and he breathed a sigh of relief. That relief was soon gone when Raivis turned back and saw the mess he'd made...oh, oh no. He'd spilled ink on his book...he could clean that with his wand, right?

...Yes. If his wand hadn't rolled into the water after he'd kicked the pile of books over. Raivis' eyes slowly looked back at the lake, and saw his wand floating farther and farther away from the shore. Dread filled his face- he would never get it back, and it was such a good wand, too...staring at it solemnly, Raivis looked after the long stick of wood as it floated farther away from him, and prayed nothing ate it.
